@Tom Cross Thanks for your reply, Tom. Google Docs is a great set of applications, but for the purposes of this article I wanted to illustrate open source software and its utility for small business users. Unfortunately Google Docs, while free, is not open source software.

Good blog, lots of useful information.

I would add to this blog the free office tools offered by Google Docs. I’ve been using them for some time now and am quite impressed. Only problem I’ve had is the spreadsheet would work with a SS I have that uses some of the advanced functions/macros. But for everyday stuff it’s pretty good.

At my store, when we’ve done a full wipe/reinstall and the user doesn’t have their Office CD (they grow legs, y’know), I’ll introduce them to OpenOffice and Google Docs. Most are very satisfied.
